C.L. Jones Middle School Announcements
CLJMS Dress Code
As school begins and parents go shopping for school clothing, please keep in mind the standard of dress expected during the school day. Several parents have called to asked about attire with holes or very worn spots. If a student has holes or very worn spots in the pants they decide to wear to school, no skin or undergarments may show through if the spot in question is above mid-thigh. If the worn area is above mid-thigh the student will be asked to change or cover the area.
Students will be expected to keep themselves well groomed and neatly dressed at all times. Any form of dress, which is dangerous, distracting, or disruptive in appearance will not be permitted. This includes “sagging” pants or exposing under garments or an inappropriate amount of bare skin, tube tops, halters, midriff shirts, or any items suggestive in nature. Shorts, skirts, or skorts must reach mid-thigh or longer. Clothing which depicts illegal drug use or advertisements of tobacco or alcohol, obscene gestures or language, sexually suggestive or are insulting to one’s race, gender, creed, or nationality, or mimics “gang” dress, or have vulgar double meanings, are specifically prohibited. Clothing or jewelry that could be used as a weapon, encourages “horse-play”, or could damage property is banned. Chains of any sort worn from the pocket, around the waist, dangling off one’s pants, etc. is not allowed. Visible body piercing that disrupts the educational setting is forbidden. Students may wear necklaces, but the length of the chain links may not exceed 1/4 inch.
The school environment shall be free from the threats or harmful influence of any groups that advocate drugs or disruptive behavior. The presence of any apparel, jewelry, accessory, notebook, or manner of grooming which by the nature of its color, arrangement, trademark, or any other attribute, which denotes membership in such groups will not be permitted. Such group’s clothing may vary from school to school, and may change from year to year; therefore, it is the responsibility of the administration to determine appropriateness of clothing or accessories.
Students wearing inappropriate clothing will be asked to change or have parent/guardian bring them clothing. Class time lost will be made up before or after school. Any inappropriate notebooks, graffiti, jewelry, or accessories will be confiscated.
With our floor covering being light in color and the rooms carpeted, shoes with any type of cleat are not to be worn in the building. Students are to wear shoes that will not mark tile floors.
Headwear such as hats, caps, bandannas, headbands, scarves, are not to be worn during the school day. Headwear is to be removed when entering the building.
Standards on student dress apply to all school sponsored activities. However, students may wear caps, etc. to athletic activities. Students who choose to wear inappropriate clothing to extra-curricular activities will be asked to leave. (MPS Policy 5101, p. 7)

After School Study Hall
Students have the daily opportunity to receive quality help while completing homework. At C. L. Jones Middle School we offer a supervised homework room each night of the school week. The homework room is managed by two CLJMS staff who work with students daily in all subject areas. Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Whitney are veteran staff members of CLJMS who have tutored students in all subject areas for many years.
The C. L. Jones Middle School study hall runs Monday through Thursday from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, and on Friday from 2:15 PM to 3:00 PM. Many students have taken advantage of this service to complete their school work prior to going home.
All students are welcome and encouraged to take part in this valuable program.

iPad Self-Protection Plan
Students in grades 6 - 8, who have enrolled in the C. L. Jones Middle School iPad Self-Protection plan are able to take their school issued iPad home. This plan is a crucial part of digital learning at the middle school. The self-protection plan offers families protection against the high cost one will incur if their student accidently breaks their school issued iPad.
Digital devices are an outstanding tool one can use to expand learning opportunities for all students, however, they are expensive. The iPad, cover, charger, and cable purchased for our middle school students has a replacement cost of nearly $500. Replacing an iPad completely does happen but the biggest issue is replacing a broken iPad screen. The cost of replacing a screen runs anywhere from $112 to $150 depending on other repairs which need to be done resulting from the damaged screen. The cost to enroll in the self-protection plan is $35. With the self-protection plan a student iPad will be insured against accidental damage or theft up to $200. Any repair or replacement cost above $200 will be charged to the student, parent, or caregiver.
The key components of the middle schools self-protection plan:
Student's are financially responsible for repairs to their school issued iPad that are determined to be the result of negligence. The self-protection plan is a financial safe guard against the high price of repairs. One may download the self-protection document, complete the form and return it to the middle school office with a check for $35 to be enrolled in the plan immediately.
To download a complete copy of the self-protection plan and the Digital Device and Policies and Procedures for 1:1 Program C. L. Jones Middle School click HERE. Page 7 will have the self-protection plan.
To download the C. L. Jones Middle School, Minden Public School Self-Protection Plan only click HERE.
Any student not enrolled in the self-protection plan will have access to their school issued iPad at school from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Friday.

"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance."
Robert F. Kennedy Capetown, June 6th 1966
